Adult Sunday School

Adult Sunday School classes are held in the Education Building and the Gathering Place at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  on Sunday mornings.  Prior to the Sunday School time there is a friendly fellowship time in the church parlor with coffee and doughnut holes available. Join us about 9:15 a.m. to get your coffee and share in some interesting discussions.  If you are new to the Sunday School, we gladly will direct you to a Sunday School that might fit your interests.

The Explorers Sunday School Class

With an average attendance of 18-20, this class is made up of people of many ages ranging from 30’s to 80’s, and includes people with doctorates and those with high school educations.  We are all on a journey to study the Bible, book by book, studying the scriptures in context.  Our leaders facilitate lively discussions.  We bring our own Bibles, so we have several translations and commentaries to add to our discussion.   This approach keeps biblical stories and ideas in context.  The Explorers’ meet in the Education Building, Room 101, and is led by Linda Crawford, Matt Dikeman, and Jim Kunkel.

Saints Under Construction Bible Study

This class uses the Presbyterian curriculum, The Present Word, which seeks to help participants understand the Bible in relation to present-day life experiences. Weekly attendance normally includes 10 to 12 participants that are encouraged to join class discussions and activities to benefit from a common Christian experience and knowledge. The “Saints Under Construction” class meets in The Gathering Place in Room #2.  The class is led by Patti Nanney.

The Connections / Wired Word Class

This is an informal class, primarily made up of the Gen X and Millennial generations in the congregation.  Theologian Karl Barth once gave this advice to some young pupils of his: “Take your Bible in one hand and take your newspaper in the other, and read both. But interpret newspapers from your Bible.” That advice is the foundation of this conversation group that meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 in Room #4 of The Gathering Place. The starting point for the conversation each week comes from an Internet resource, “The Wired Word,” that includes biblical commentary and thought-provoking questions related to a topic in the news that week.  The group also hosts many social events such as Crafternoons, B-movie nights, game nights, and other activities – suggest one!  Email Kate at connections@springbranchpres.org for more information.
