“Gift From The Sea”

A Summer Book Club

Not too long ago when I was heading to the beach for a few days of “r & r,” a friend of mine suggested that I take my mother’s copy of the book, Gift From The Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.  Looking at her copy, I realized that my mother had gotten it right before I was born.  Throughout the faded, care worn pages, there were different lines highlighted by her as she had read them at different times of her life.  She had even made notes in the margins and then had stuck “Sticky Notes” on certain pages.  It was a glimpse of wisdom not only by the author but also by my mother into the different stages of her life.  It was short enough in length that I quickly read the book; but then I went back wanting to savor it.  Not only that, I wanted to savor it with other women in reflecting on our own lives today and the different stages that we find ourselves in.  I found out that the book had been so meaningful to another friend that a portion of it had been read as part of her wedding service.  So the three of us friends—Kay Craig, Nina Rach and I want to invite other friends (that’s YOU) to join us in a special Book Club this summer in which we savor together Gift From The Sea.

Recognizing different people’s schedules, there are two times and places offered for this one and a half hour gathering on the days we meet:     11:30am-1:00pm at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church in the Conference Room (Bring a sack lunch, drinks provided) and 7:00-8:30pm in different homes (Bring an appetizer or dessert to share).  The final gathering for those who are able to come will be a beach retreat.  We will also offer a final gathering at the church.  Here are our dates:
