The Colors of Lent

Posted on March 28, 2013

Our “In the Wild” journey this Lenten season is about to come to an end.  Lent helps us to remember how Jesus prayed and fasted in the wilderness before beginning his ministry. Just as Jesus prepared his heart and his head for the journey of his ministry, Lent calls us to venture into the wild to prepare our own hearts and heads.

We continue to prepare ourselves using various colors of Lent. This seventh week of Lent, let’s think about the color Purple, which represents Repentance and Forgiveness.

There comes times in our lives when we need a Purple Lent.  There are times when, for our own good, we need to cut down or give up, to limit or  quit, to practice self-denial, offering this sacrifice to God in compensation for our health and freedom under our love for God.

A Purple Lent helps us to empty ourselves of all that keeps us from growing in our relationship with God.

Prayer

O Lord, I invite you into my heart today, and I ask forgiveness for all of my sins.  Each time I see the color Purple, Jesus, I thank you for dying for my sins and for forgiving me of them through your shed blood for me on the cross.  Amen.
