This week in VBS!

Posted on June 23, 2011

This week has been amazing thanks to the wonderful kids and volunteers! We are such a fortunate church to have so many talented individuals willing and able to give to our children and the children of the community.

The week got underway on Monday with learning about the Passover from Exodus 3:3-10. The kids got to go to science and learn about yeast, make flatbread faces for snack, start to learn the week’s songs and do arts and crafts and recreation. It was a great start to the week.

Tuesday’s message to the children was about giving happily to God. This message was truly brought home to me by one of the families attending. The children are here with their mother visiting their grandparents. They live in another state and their trip was planned specifically so that they could attend OUR VBS. The grandparents are not members of this church but heard of our program, called and then made their plans to join us. Praise be to our GOD who is in the details of so many of our lives.

The devotional for Wednesday was from the Gospel of John 14:1 (it is also the Bible Bite) ” Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in GOD, believe also in me.”

Top Chef Marguerite says:

“Dear GOD, thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce children and their families to your Son, Jesus. Be with each of us this day, in word and deed, that we show what it means to fully believe in you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
Wednesday was another terrific day! The rain just made our spirits lighter! The children continue to learn from our amazing volunteer leaders and have fun while doing so! The focus of Wednesday’s activities were how we remember important events in our lives. Smell, touch and taste are all important ingredients in our process of remembering. As you remember the smells, tastes, sounds and ‘touches’ that bring memories flooding into your mind, remember that we are making memories this week, that will hopefully last the children their lifetime.

The children talked on Thursday about the Passover this time as our LORD Jesus celebrates it with disciples for the last time. We also helped them to understand the importance of the sacrament of Holy Communion. So, let us remember these things in prayer:
Dear God, We remember you. We give thanks for all you have done for us and continue to do for us. Be with us as we guide these children of Yours to a more perfect understanding of You and help us to attain a higher level of understanding ourselves. Amen.

Marguerite would like to thank all the Breadmaker Chefs for their devotion to the children and this fun tradition in our church, Especially our “Top Breadmaker Dr. Doris Wright. Some of the young adults that were here today wanted to make bread too! Thank the youth and adults who participated in telling the story of the Last Supper and why it is important to us. Especially Laurie Mitchell who explained the meaning of the symbols clearly and simply. Taryn Gray wanted the children to have a visual of the story with watching people receiving the sacrament of communion so youth and other leaders who were elders served communion to members of the church while the event was explained. The children were not only very attentive, but had many questions as well which told us that not only is it important for us to provide them quality care, but spiritual care as well.

Friday we will end the week with a fabulous program, singing songs Ms. Beverly has taught and performing the energizers that the youth have taught each day. We will then have a scrumptious Hot Dog supper with a slide presentation of the week’s activities.

Finally, we hope that all will join us Sunday in worship as the children sing a medley of the songs for the morning’s anthem.

Tis has been a fun-filled, love filled, energy filled week and I hope that everyone has had good time. We certainly have!
Friday’s devotion is from Psalm 45:17 “I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations’; therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.”

Dear God, this week we have learned about your immense love for us. Your care and forgiveness knows no boundaries. As we continue to learn about you and to celebrate you and the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost help us to share the celebration with your children of all ages here and throughout the world. You are LORD forever. In the name of your Son, Jesus, Amen.
