Please join us this week as disciples and servants in our efforts on the Texas/Mexico border as our prayer partners.  We go as representatives of the church universal and of this particular place called Spring Branch Presbyterian Church.  We are all part of the effort.  Peace of Christ be with you.

Sunday, June 17

Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.  Love him with all your mind.  This is the first and most important commandment.  And the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39

Pray for safe travels to the Texas/Mexico border, a deepening sense of community, and a growing awareness of who our neighbors are.

Many thanks to Helen  Hogg who worked with Louise Flippin of CUPS and the SBPC participants in organizing the mission trip and taking care of paperwork.

Many thanks to Kate Cross and Doris Wright for planning and purchasing the food for lunches.

Monday, June 18

“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.  “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and you are right.  That is what I am.  I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet.  So you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have given you an example.   You should do as I have done for you.”  John 13:12-15

Pray for the CUPS Director Louise Flippin  and the CUPS Board of Directors.  CUPS is doing a wonderful job of continuing their history of service to those in need as they now work on the Texas side of the border and in Mexico.

Many thanks to Louise Flippin who continues to faithfully serve the families and schools in Mexico while forming new partnerships and relationships north of the border.  She instituted Virtual Teams to financially support the continuing building and enhancing of schools in Mexico. CUPS’ presence is known because Louise has her heart and ears open to real needs. Louise and her vision have kept a mission alive that could easily have failed because of the violence in Mexico.

Tuesday, June 19

The King will reply, “What I’m about to tell you is true.  Anything you do for the least important of these brothers of mine, you do for me.”  Matthew 25:40

Pray for hearts and hands willing to serve as homes are built and repaired in the colonias through Proyecto Azteca and as PET units (Personal Energy Transportation) are built for the handicapped along the Texas border and in Mexico.

Charlie Craig and Chuck Davidson will lead the two work crews this week.

Laurie Mitchell will support the youth as they lead a vacation Bible school.

Nina Rach will be working with Louise Flippin to use Linkedin to effectively communicate CUPS’ efforts and needs to friends  spread far and wide.

Wednesday, June 20

He said to his disciples, “Let the little children come to me.  Don’t keep them away.  God’s kingdom belongs to people like them.  What I’m about to tell you is true.  Anyone who will not receive God’s kingdom as a little child will never enter it.  Then he took the children in his arms.  He put his hands on them and blessed them.  Mark 10:14-16

Pray for the children of the colonais and our friends as they lead vacation Bible school during this week.  Pray for the children, families, and teachers in Mexico served by CUPS.

Ethan Mitchell, Caroline Bik, and Dick Slover will plan group devotions for the trip.  Pastor Jim Gentner will lead the group in communion.

Laurie Mitchell and Chuck Davidson will be drivers for the trip.  Backup drivers are Dick Slover and Charlie Craig.

Thursday, June 21

Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right.  They will be filled.  Blessed are those who show mercy.  They will be shown mercy.  Blessed are those whose hearts are pure.  They will see God.  Blessed are those who make peace.  They will be the sons and daughters of peace.  Matthew 5: 6-9

Pray for the efforts of the peace makers in Mexico.  They are there.  We hear more about the violence than the peace.  Prayer for peace and a renewed sense of right in a country torn by greed.  Pray for wisdom of leadership on both sides of the border.

Emily Mitchell will serve as photographer for the mission trip.

Many thanks to Melissa Balli and the Service Team for their support and encouragement of this trip.

Many thanks to all of our prayer partners in Houston and West Columbia.

Friday, June 22

We all have gifts.  They differ in keeping with the grace God has given each of us….Is it your gift to serve? Then serve.  Is it teaching? Then teach….Is it being a leader?  Then work hard at it.  Is it showing mercy?  Then do it cheerfully.  Romans 12:6-8 selected

Pray for a safe trip home, rest, and a renewed sense of calling. Members will be tired and weary, ready to be home, and full of stories of grace.

Special thanks for the memory of Wix Thorpe, who started the relationship between CUPS and SBPC a number of years ago.  And to Ferrell Thorpe for her service to CUPS through the years.
